Another Take on the so-called “Ban on Luxury advertising in China”

Indeed, where else to discuss about this matter if not on Lookout China.

Apologies to be silent in the last few months on the blog. As you can imagine, outdoor business in China is still booming (+13% growth expected in 2011 overall ) and thus work is quite hectic and the pressure high in this very high competitive environment especially when we have to beat the growth ;.)

I have heard a hundred different versions of what the Beijing government notification on “Luxury advertising new regulations” meant and as the buzz is now over, I still hear many brands, clients, agencies are still very confused about what it really means for their own brand.

Well, let me summarize the situation in one sentence: Nothing has been banned in China, especially not luxury advertising; the notifications are merely just reasonable adjustments to the Advertising Law that let unscrupulous advertisers lie to the audiences via unreasonable terms and false statements.

China Census 2010: Build a harmonious society

China will start its 6th mational census on the 1st of November 2010. From what I understandd, the census will be based on face to face interviews for the Chinese population and also some volunteer declaration especially in the biggest cities and for the foreigners.

It will survey population, age, nationality, levels of education, profession and population migration.

All the foreigners that have been resident in China over 6 months shall register; I ll share with you more information about this once i actually know how.

How I found out about this is by a clear and efficient outdoor campaign that has florished all over town in Beijing that I believe have spread nationally.

“风大,土多”: "Strong Wind, a lot of dust".

As an outdoor media blog, I don't really want to share with you the weather changes in Beijing unless it's worth notification. But what happened in the last few days is quite a Beijing phenomenon that is worth knowing: the Beijing sandstorm.

Here is what we can see today in Beijing ( first sandstorm hit BJ on friday night, and second one today):

sandstorm 1

Here is what we could see 7 days ago in Beijing ( snowed all Sunday 14th):

snow in BJ

So basically, in a 2 weeks time we had snow twice and sandstorms twice. I love Beijing weather!!!

The snow mid-March was quite a surprise I admit , but the sandstorms are quite common between Winter and Spring as if it was coming to cover Beijing in dust and reborn a few days later with a clear blue sky and warm temperatures. I am looking forward to that.

Happy Chinese New Year The “Tigerization” of Beijing

Like every year, Chinese new year is bringing its lot of “ animal advertisement” all around town.

This year, we can not miss the Tigerization of Beijing. Honestly, why not? I mean, it's a great event, great event for the families, the companies and every brand shall really take advantage of this opportunity to tigerize their ads and get a positive feeling from the audience towards the brands thanks to that.

But I am really wondering for some brands if they shall have jumped both feet in that tiger concept without really making something different out of it compared to other brands. I can give you some samples below:

LOokOut China Blog opening !!!

Welcome my friends on this New Blog.

LOokOut China is the first blog dedicated only to OOH media in China in English ( well, i'll try to make as less mistakes as I can but if you see any typo problem in my posts, don't hesitate to correct me).

The principle of the blog is to share comments and ideas on the Outdoor original campaigns in Beijing, the new formats, the technology breakthrough or simply share what is hype in Beijing and create the media buzz. As the blog is starting, it may of course evolve following the comments and the audience wishes.

Let's just share our guts feeling about some campaign, let's see what China is bringing to the OOH industry... or not bringing!!

As this is my first blog, and I am not really what we can call a Geek, don't hesitate to give me advices of how I can make the blog better, more understandable and more exciting for everyone.

Ok, I won't say more for this first post.

Let's BLOG, Let's LOokOut!!!!
